Thomas M. T. McKennan was born on March 31, 1794. He entered Washington College as a member of its first freshman class and was one of the first seven students to graduate in 1810. In 1814 McKennan opened a law office on Maiden Street. He was elected to Congress in 1831 and served for four terms. In 1835 he was instrumental in the founding of the Washington Female Seminary. McKennan was a Washington College trustee for 34 years, from 1818 until his death on July 9, 1852.
